Amrita Pritam, the great poet who ruled for more than 60 years in Punjabi literature, is not only popular in India but also in Pakistan.

At the time of the partition of Indo-Pak after independence, the family of this great poet Amrita Pritam Ji settled in Delhi, the capital of India, although her popularity did not matter even after coming to India, both Indo-Pak people of his country loved the poems as much as she did before Partition. After coming to India, She started writing in Hindi along with the Punjabi language.

When she was just 11 years old, a mountain of troubles broke over her, the mother’s shadow was lifted forever from her head, after which all the responsibility of the house fell on her little shoulders. In this way, her childhood was burdened with responsibilities.

Amrita Pritam was married to Pritam Singh at the age of 16, after this Amrita Kaur changed her name to Amrita Pritam, but her marriage did not last long. In 1960, Amrita Ji got divorced from her husband. According to Amrita Pritam’s self-story Rashidi Ticket, her closeness with poet Sahir Ludhinvi increased after her divorce from Pritam Singh, but then when singer Sudha Malhotra came into Sahir’s life, Amrita met artist and writer Imroz, with whom she spent the rest of her life.

She was survived by her partner Imroz, daughter Kandala Amrita Pritam, son Navraj Kwatra, daughter-in-law Alka, and her grandchildren, Taurus, Noor, Aman, and Shilpi. Navraj Kwatra was killed in 2012. The art of her writing made her name immortal.
